…if a breath was as long as a day or night and if the edges of my skin were soft and intimate with the world…
An exploration of edges, boundaries, the space in between. A meditation on what separates us, what connects us, what is the difference between a molecule of my skin and the atoms of oxygen next to it. An awakening to the process of immersion, expansion, openness, time and orientation, the sensual, the somatic. A delving into the esoteric and wonder of science, the poetry of mindfulness and a new vocabulary of embodiment.
This series of films began as an exploration of the interplay between science and art. Being on the edge of the known and unknown science and art can both spark the imagination, feed creativity and transform understanding. Physics & cosmology have given us stories of understanding of ourselves by looking out into the universe and discovering that we are made of the same stuff as the stars and the galaxies. That every particle that makes up my body now was present at the birth of our universe.
If we are truly children of the stars, if understanding ourselves allows us to understand the Cosmos then surely our consciousness can slip between the two and our bodily lived experience can inform a deeper connection with the observable universe. In this series of films I am exploring moments that give visual resonance to this dynamic interrelationship of the corporeal and the ethereal. It is from this place, remembering that our story is inextricably linked to that of the universe, and with the sound of breath, of life, always present that we can truly start to wonder….. (what) if a breath was as long as a day or night and if the edges of my skin were soft and intimate with the world……
